Introductions

Hi, my name is Joy and I'm a mom, a wife and a follower of Jesus.  I have 3 young kids.  So much has happened since the birth of my twin boys.  They came early and they have down syndrome.  So, I wanted to share their story but it's also my story and our families story. I want to share how parenting a quote "normal" child compares to parenting two with "special needs".   Even though my boys are 18 months old, I still go back to the pregnancy and the NICU quite often in my head. Every time we go to a doctor appointment or I'm in the car by myself, I go back to that daily drive to the NICU.  And those emotions are still so fresh. It's time to get it out of my head and into writing.  I want to share how entering into motherhood has changed my perceptions, healed my heart, grown my faith and taught me so much. I hope you enjoy this window into our lives.

  1. I am Sandi and I have a 36 year old son who has had Cerebral Palsy since birth. I went into labor 6 weeks early, and the doctor kepy giving me drugs to ty to stop the contractions, after 36 hourd they detected my babies heart beat was slowing down to the dangerous point, When they finally let the labor proceed I was so tired and drugged my uterine muscle were not working correctly, The cord got wrapped around my sins neck and by the time they got him out of the birth canal he was black due to anoxia (lack of oxygen). They put oxygen on him and he started to turn pink from the core of his body then out to the extremities, but then was rushed from Huntingburg Indiana at St. Josephs hospital to Welborn Hospital in Evansville, Indiana where they had a premature neo-natal unit. My son has normal intelligence and he walks with a scissor gait. My son has also been diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia simce the age of 18.
